Not so long ago, fabric shower curtains went right out of fashion and glass shower doors became all the rage. Like most fads however, evolution continues and the older fashions have come full circle once again. Hence, we now find that fabric shower curtains are the “in” thing and are usually readily available at most stores for you to buy.
Learn from this however and don’t throw out your glass doors just yet either. The convenience and the more sophisticated appearance of glass doors are firmly entrenched in some quarters. As with everything else in your home, you need to be guided most by what works for you.
People who prefer fabric shower curtains will admit that glass shower doors have their advantages. Naturally they’ll stick by their choice of fabric shower curtains but they are happy to outline the advantages of glass doors as well. Of course these include; no water dripping from the bottom of the curtain onto the floor as you take a shower, no constantly damp curtain layers requiring separation each morning to ensure that they dry and air out and no damp curtains sticking to various parts of your body if you move too close to the entry as you shower. Maybe best of all the advantages, is the easy cleaning afforded by glass doors.
However, as fans of fabric shower curtains will also tell you, glass doors have their downsides as well. Probably the biggest being that if you let the cleaning of the doors go for even one week, nasty little stains will begin to form along the sides where they’re fixed to the wall, some of which prove to have a stronger will than you do. And without a good regular wipe-down of the doors, (and sometimes even in spite of receiving one), your otherwise nice clean bathroom will begin to look grungy as water deposits and lime-scale build up on the shower doors.
The main reason though why fabric shower curtains are an all time favourite of many people is related to one reason, and one reason only. This is probably the factor that will lead these people to have a contented smile on their faces even after they’ve just spent the last half hour cleaning their bathroom. Fabric shower curtains are disposable.
Yes, that really is the one whopping big reason why fabric shower curtains continue to be a firm favourite of a lot of people. Have you ever tried replacing your glass doors on a regular basis? It just won’t happen and it’s doubtful if it will happen within a space of five years or so. Unless, that is, you take a very large sledgehammer to it “by accident”. They are just so expensive, whereas fabric shower curtains could be changed almost every week if you really wanted. You can have several that you alternate regularly so that you don’t get too bored with them and your bathroom has a fresh face on a regular basis.
So now you know the reason why for many people, fabric shower curtains never really went out of fashion. Simple convenience. So if you’re thinking of changing back from your glass shower doors to fabric shower curtains, don’t be put off by the initial job that awaits you. Once you remove those doors, whenever you feel your bathroom needs a mini-makeover, just exchange one set of curtains for another. If nothing else it’ll make you feel more cheerful!
